In simple language ductility involves determining the extent by which a material can withstand plastic deformation without rupture and also which has the ability of materials such as steel, which are to be drawn out into thin wires or flat sheets without even pulling apart or breaking. Wire line ductility testers offer simple and effective method of testing slick lines thus to ensure that these meet the high standards of strength and flexibility. Materials which are tested with the performance of torsion test on carbon steel lines or a wrap test on alloy or stainless steel are carbon steel, alloy and stainless steel. Thus for testing carbon steel wire a set length wire is loaded into the ductility testers and as the end is clamped in the fixed clamp and are also available in the rotating clamp. These wires are then twisted with the use of crank handles and number of turns before the wire breaks and the type of fracture thus indicate that whether the wire is good or not. Thus for testing alloy or steel slick lines the bridge support is used to hold a small section of line horizontally to the rotating clamp as the piece which is to be tested is the piggy backed onto the rotating clamp which is above the other piece and thus by bending the wire through right angle which is 90 degrees it can be easily wrapped around the small section of which ten to twelve rotations should be spooled onto the small horizontal section of wire which makes use of a steady motion. The hunting wire line ductility testers is considered to be simple, effective tool and are designed in a way that these look very compact and are very much convenient for use.
These ductility testers are used in flexible pavement construction and also very much in bitumen binders. Ductility testers apparatus have many specifications which consist of a water bath equipped with a thermostatic heater and also has a circulating pump for maintaining uniform water temperature.
