Generator Components

Ac generators are widely used to produce ac voltage. To understand how these generators operate, the function of each component of the generator must first be understood. Eo 1.1 state the purpose of the following components of an ac generator: a. Field b. Armature c. Prime mover d. Rotor e. Stator the field in an ac generator consists of coils of conductors within the generator that receive a voltage from a source (called excitation) and produce a magnetic flux. The magnetic flux in the field cuts the armature to produce a voltage. This voltage is ultimately the output voltage of the ac generator. Armature the armature is the part of an ac generator in which voltage is produced. This component consists of many coils of wire that are large enough to carry the full-load current of the generator. Prime mover the prime mover is the component that is used to drive the ac generator. The prime mover may be any type of rotating machine, such as a diesel engine, a steam turbine, or a motor. automotive thermoelectric generators (ateg) are devices utilizes the seebeck effect to recover lost heat in an internal combustion engine powered vehicle. A typical ateg consists of four main elements: a hot-side heat exchanger, a cold-side heat exchanger, thermoelectric materials, and compression assembly system. Ategs can be classified according to their hot-side heat exchanger to exhaust-based ategs and coolant-based ategs. The first type converts the heat lost in the ic engine exhaust, while the second type converts the heat lost in the engine coolant, into electricity.

In ategs, thermoelectric materials are packed between the hot-side and the cold-side heat exchangers. The temperature difference between the two surfaces of the thermoelectric module generates electricity. The compression assembly system aims to decrease the thermal contact resistance between the thermoelectric module and the heat exchanger surfaces. In exhaust-based ategs, the cold side heat exchanger uses engine coolant as the cooling fluid, while in coolant-based ategs, the cold-side heat exchanger uses ambient air as the cooling fluid.
