Agricultural products grow to wider dimensions. The major agro-products extend to crops like pulses, rice, wheat, barley etc. They account for the average foodstuffs for the country and responsible for a healthy economy. In india due to diverse climates, wide range of crops is being cultivated in different parts of the country. Pulse is an important group of crops in india. It furnishes the major sources of protein in the diet. India is the largest producer of pulses in the world. Pulse is grown on non-irrigated land responding to winter rainfall conditions by reducing seeded area for the rabi season. The regions with wild productions of pulses are punjab, haryana, western uttar pradesh, west bengal delta region, coastal andhra pradesh, tamil nadu, kerala, coastal and eastern karnataka and maharashtra. The major pulse types cultivated are chickpeas (gram), pigeon pea, moong beans, urd (black matpe), masur (lentil), peas and various kinds of beans. Rice is prominent in indian agriculture. And it is evident that rice is the major food of men. It contributes 31% of the countries gdp and 25% of india's exports in agriculture. The major rice growing states include west bengal, uttar pradesh, madhya pradesh, orissa, bihar, andhra pradesh, assam, tamil nadu, punjab, maharashtra, kannataka, haryana, gujarat, kerala, rajasthan, himachal pradesh, mirozam, goa and pondicherry. Basmati is the prominent rice and mostly produced for export. Wheat is produced in india and has a narrow geographic land base of production as compared to rice or pulses. But, in world india places second in wheat consumption. The major wheat growing states are uttar pradesh, punjab, haryana, rajasthan, madhya pradesh, gujarat and bihar. Almost all the northern states are replenished with wheat cultivation. Barley is the first cereal crop cultivated in subtropical regions.
