Power supplies is used to denote electrical or mechanical energy supplies. Power supplies are devices that produce ac or dc power. A dc power supply is used in place of a 12-volt battery. This type of power supply is similar to a battery charger. Some high current battery chargers will produce up to 17 volts as the battery reaches it fully charged state. The regulated dc power supplies will not go above their regulated voltage. Common forms of dc power supplies include linear power supply, switching power supply, dc-dc converters and high voltage power supplies. Linear or series-regulated power supplies produce an output that is proportional to the input. Dc-dc converters accept dc power supplies input and provide regulated and/or isolated dc output in various applications including computer flash memory, telecommunications equipment, and process control systems. User interfaces for dc power supplies include analog front panels, digital front panels, computer interfaces, serial interfaces, parallel interfaces, application software, analog meters or displays, digital readouts, and video display terminals.
