The telephone is a telecommunications device which is used to transmit and receive sound. Most telephones operate through transmission of electric signals over a complex telephone network which allows almost any phone user to communicate with almost any other.Although most of us take it completely for granted, the telephone you have in your house is one of the most amazing devices ever created. If you want to talk to someone, all you have to do is pick up the phone and dial a few digits. You are instantly connected to that person, and you can have a two-way conversation. The telephone network extends worldwide, so you can reach nearly anyone on the planet. The telephone was invented by alexander graham bell in 1876, and wireless communication can trace its roots to the invention of the radio by nikolai tesla in the 1880s. It was only natural that these two great technologies would eventually be combined. For many years telephone, mobile phones, cellular phones and gsm have been the best and the fastest mode of communication systems. These are available in different companies, models, sizes, and colors and provide a wide variety of features and functions. They are available in different price ranges suiting every individual's pocket. They are available for show purposes as well as some are so small and flexible that they can be carried in pockets. Millions of people around the world use cellular phones today. Mobile phones or cellular phones are long-range, portable electronic devices for mobile communication. In addition to the standard voice function of a telephone, current mobile phones can support many additional services such as sms for text messaging, email, packet switching for access to the internet, and mms for sending and receiving photos and video. Mobile phones are distinct from cordless telephone, which generally operate only within a limited range of a specific base station. Most current mobile phones connect to a cellular network of base stations, which is in turn interconnected to the public switched telephone network. These days, cellular phones or mobile phones provide an incredible array of functions. Depending on the cell-phone model, one can store contact information, make task or to-do lists, keep track of appointments and set reminders, use the built-in calculator for simple math, send or receive e-mail, get information (news, entertainment, stock quotes) from the internet, play games, watch tv, send text messages, integrate other devices such as pdas, mp3 players and gps receivers. Other facilities include built-in cameras, ring tones, radio, push-to-talk, infrared and blue tooth connectivity etc. Nokia is currently the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones. Other mobile phone manufacturers include lg, motorola, panasonic, samsung, sony ericsson etc. Gsm, global system for mobile communications, is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. Gsm service is used by over 2 most of the people around the world. The ubiquity of the gsm standard makes international roaming very common between mobile phones operators, enabling subscribers to use their phones in many parts of the world.
