An af transformer is an audio frequency transformer, to operate one efficiently in the circuit to run at several thousand cycles per second, somewhere in the range of audio frequencies. They are involved in the transmission of voice or sound signals; they often require wide frequency bandwidth with low distortion and noise suppression. The af transformers are featured with varnish impregnated or epoxy potted, magnetically shielded, electrostatic shielded, flexible leads or pcb terminations, frequency response, harmonic distortion, longitudinal balance, dielectric strength, impedance matching etc. The wide application of these devices is in voice band telephones, microphone transformers, tube amplifiers, and paging systems etc. These af transformers come in different power versions for use in different applications.
