In simple sense, whistler is someone who whistles or makes a loud high sound. Any of various birds that produce a whistling sound are also called whistlers. A very low frequency electromagnetic (radio) wave generated by lightning is also called as a whistler.

manufacturers offer whistles of different sizes for different purposes. Whistles are often used as warning and safety equipment. It's attention-grabbing device due to its shrill and loud noise. Small whistles with their loud, attention-getting blast makes whistles essential for police officers and sports referees. This safety supply also known as peas whistles, which are used in jazz and latin music. Japanese birds whistles use a number of balls and are filled with water. This produces a sound of a bird song.

industrial whistles are used for sending signals and time keeping. Most of these whistles are steam powered and therefore are able to produce loud noise. Railways use elaborative whistles and coordinate with their specific codes. A train whistle or air whistle, is an audible signaling device on a steam locomotive used to warn that the train is approaching, and to communicate with rail workers. These train whistles are steam whistles and intricate. They produce three to four frequencies together and at a low pitch with extremely loud noise. Trucks use air horns or whistles since they have air brakes.

Whistles can save lives when used by lifeguards, lost campers, or crime victims. Innumerable organizers and leaders, ranging from teachers to drum majors, use them to focus attention and demonstrate authority. In addition to those blown by humans, mechanically operated whistles serve many purposes. For example, a form of whistle can measure the rate of flow of a fluid in a manufacturing process and even control fluid flow. Whistles can signal the escape of some sort of gas, the ordinary tea kettle being the simplest example.
