There is absolutely no reason for anybody to get hurt, disabled or killed while using a ladder. Yet it happens every single day. A home or work place can be a deadly place if ladders are not used properly and with little or no information. So for ladder safety, one should always select a ladder, which is the correct length to safely reach the working height. Also ensure that the ladder is of the correct duty, or weight rating. The combined weight of the user, their tools and materials should never exceed the rating of the ladder. Wear the proper shoes with good soles and that are free of grease or mud. Don't climb up the backside of a stepladder and never stand on the top of it. No rungs are cracked or missing. Breaking one simple rule of ladder safety can cause more accidents than one's possible imagination. Make sure the weight your ladder is supporting does not exceed its maximum load rating (user plus materials) and there should only be one person on the ladder at one time for ladder safety. Ladders are to be kept free of oil, grease, wet paint, and other slipping hazards. Wood ladders must not be coated with any opaque covering, except identification or warning labels on one face only of a side rail. Ladder rungs, cleats, or steps must be parallel, level, and uniformly spaced in safety ladders. Rungs must be spaced between 10 and 14 inches apart. For extension ladders, the spacing must be 8-18 inches for the base, and 6-12 inches on the extension section. Straight, single or extension ladders should be set up at about a 75-degree angle and all metal ladders should have slip-resistant feet. All locks on extension ladders should be properly engaged. And the ground under the ladder should be level and firm. Metal ladders will conduct electricity, so for ladder safety, one can use a wooden or fiberglass ladder in the vicinity of power lines or electrical equipment. Do not let a ladder made from any material contact live electric wires. Fiberglass ladders are quality safety ladders that ensure safety. These safety ladders are also available of materials like wood and galvanized aluminum and steel. Non- self-supporting and self-supporting portable ladders are ridged, dimpled, coated with slip- resistant. Fixed ladders are heavy duty ones and the ladders with walk through are designed for applications where safe access is required. Fixed ladders with safety cage have flared bottom opening for easy entry.
manufacturers also offer welded one piece of such fire fighting equipment with walk through and safety cages. Extension ladders, duo safety ladders and roof ladders are used for painting and maintenance. Ladders have versatile uses and offers protection. Safety stepladders are used to clean our homes. Fire safety ladders are used by fire fighting personnel and calamity rescuers. In construction sites, they are of maximum utilization.
