Ultraviolet coatings are designed to react to specific ultraviolet rays. Ultraviolet coatings contain two main ingredients, photoinitiators and monomers. Monomers are described to be similar to chain like molecules in the d.N.A. Helix. The monomers are bonded together when the photoinitiator reacts to the sun light acting as the catalyst. An ultraviolet coating is a clear liquid spread over the paper like ink and then cured instantly with ultraviolet light. Uv coating gives more protection and sheen than either varnish or aqueous coating. Since it is cured with light and not heat, no solvents enter the atmosphere. Ultraviolet coatings contain no solvents and pollutants when cured. It is more difficult to recycle than the other coatings. Ultraviolet coatings have been widely adopted in many industries including automotive, telecommunications, electronics, graphic arts, converting and metal, glass and plastic decorating.
