Planetary gear sets are often used in automatic transmissions and transfer cases. In this gear system the planet spur gears turns on a central sun gear and an internal ring gear. The internal gears have their teeth pointing inwards. The outer ring of the gear set has internal teeth that mate with teeth on smaller planetary gears. These gears, in turn, mesh with center or sun gear. In a planetary gear set, one gear is normally the input, another is prevented from moving, or is held, and the third gear is the output gear. The planetary gearbox system is a highly versatile system for reduction of high rpm electric motors to high torque low rpm applications. They can be used in precision instruments due to the reliability and accuracy of the unit. Since each set of these gears is capable of more than one speed change and used in automatic cars. These gears are offered in wide range configurations such as different output ratios and torque capacities requiring diverse consumer needs.
