A standardized way of identifying the manufacturer and his product is a bar code. A bar code is a universal product code, (upc); a series of thick and thin lines on products and packages, which are readable by laser barcode scanners. With the help of a upc symbol, retailers keep a track of the number of products they receive from the same manufacturer. All the manufacturers are tracked by the first five numbers and the next set of numbers denote the specific product. To keep a check on hackers, there is a unique check code for different manufacturers. Thus, with the help of bar codes, time isn't consumed in physical inventories. Sales viewed are computerized. However standard numbers and letters are also included, they are not a part of the check code. Varieties of industrial barcode labels available are thermal labels, laser labels, printed labels and custom labels. Manufacturers also offer these bar code labels in different sizes, shapes and colors.
