Pumps are used to move liquids or slurries. Pumps move liquid from lower pressure to higher pressure, and overcome this difference in pressure by adding energy to the system such as a water system. Pumps are used throughout society for a variety of purposes. Early applications include the use of the water pumps to pump water. Today, pumps are used for irrigation, water supply, gasoline supply, air conditioning systems, refrigeration (usually called a compressor), chemical movement, sewage movement, flood control, marine services, etc.Hose pump is a common pump used to handle abrasive materials. The inner wall of the hose is compressed without internal friction. Abrasive particles are cushioned in the thick soft inner wall of the hose. After compression the abrasive particles return freely into the flow of fluid without damaging the hose wall. The pumping action is transferred to the hose by the radial motion of smooth sliding shoes in a lubricant bath without contact with the fluid to be pumped. It is designed and built for back pressures up to 15 bar (kg/cm2) i.E. 220 ps.I.G. Abrasive material handling pumps can run dry, i.E. Can pump without fluid continuously. They are safe to use in an explosive environment. They are easy to clean and maintain. They are used in: slurries, chemicals, soap, iron oxides, suspensions & solids, radioactive waste, explosives, resins, filter aids, lime, paint, carbon, adhesives, latex, waste oils. Hose pumps are unique as there are no seals, valves, or moving parts in the product stream, making the pump ideal for abrasive slurries. The pump's operation is elegantly simple: a hose element positioned along stationary pump housing is compressed from the outside by shoes that are mounted to a rotor. Fluid is pushed towards the discharge as the rotor slides the shoes along the hose element while the restitution of the hose element behind the shoe allows more fluid to be drawn into the pump. This design means the abrasive fluid is completely contained within the hose element; the rotor remains outside the pumpage zone and never actually touches the product being moved. The complete closure of the hose element gives the pump its positive displacement action, preventing flow drop or erosion from backflow and also eliminating the need for check-valves. Because hose pumps have a non-slip positive displacement design, they give repeatable flow per revolution along their entire speed range regardless of discharge pressure. This makes them inherently excellent metering pumps, though they are commonly applied in fixed speed transfer applications as well. In slurry applications, hose pumps are fully reversible, self-priming, and can run dry without damage. These pumps also add the benefit of being able to blow out blockages or drain process lines of high settling solids between batch runs. The stark contrast in maintenance and installation simplicity versus other pumps shows why hose pumps offer the lowest cost of ownership in abrasive applications.
