Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide or co2 is basically a colorless gas. The density of carbon dioxide is 1.5 times that of air. Since carbon dioxide is a fully oxidized gas it is not very reactive and also not flammable. When carbon dioxide gas is treated to a temperature of below -75c, it condenses into a white solid called dry ice. This dry ice or solid form of carbon dioxide is widely used in the food industries as refrigerants where they are used during transportation or storage of ice creams or other frozen foods. Carbon dioxide is also used in the manufacture of various carbonated drinks and sodas and also in the carbonation of beer and sparkling wine. Fire extinguishers that are found in many industries, cinemas, shopping malls etc are filled with liquid carbon dioxide. Quite often carbon dioxide is used as an inexpensive, non-flammable pressurized gas.
