Grinding is the most accurate of all the basic machining processes. Grinding machine uses a rotating abrasive grinding wheel to change the shape or dimensions of a hard, usually metallic, work piece. Grinders are used for finishing surfaces and can also be used to reduce the tolerance on cylindrical and flat surfaces. Grinders can produce perfectly flat and/or smooth machine-part surfaces. There are different types of grinders available in the market. External, internal, surface, cylindrical grinding machines, surface grinders, centreless grinders, horizontal grinders etc for different grinding purposes such as to remove waste on billets and slabs in the steel making process, thick plate grinding machines used for shipbuilding and large containers, steel automobile parts castings and many more. Grinding generates heat so a good grinder should be designed to control heat in the cutting area.
