Hydrochloric acid (hcl) is a chemical substance, which is aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride gas. It is either a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, or a colorless to slightly yellow gas, which can be shipped as a liquefied compressed gas. It is a strong acid. Hydrochloric acid is a fundamental chemical and as such it is widely used for a large number of small-scale application such as household cleaning, building construction, leather processing etc. It is used in the manufacture of phosphoric acid, chlorine dioxide, ammonium chloride, fertilizers, dyes, and artificial silk and pigments for paints. Hydrochloric acid is also used in the production of batteries, photoflash bulbs and fireworks. It is even used to process sugar and make gelatin. Hydrochloric acid is also an important part in the production of chlorides, pickling and cleaning metal products. Hydrochloric acid is used as a refining ore in production of tin and tantalum. The other uses of hydrochloric acid include electroplating, removing scales from boilers, neutralization for basic systems, catalyst and solvent in organic synthesis, etc. Hydrochloric acid is of wide chemical, textile and rubber industrial use.
