Extensometer is an ideal measuring device used to measure absolute strain, the change in length of a line segment. They are available in various configurations requiring diverse applications. The tape extensometer is used to detect and monitor changes in the distance between two reference points. Extensometers are available in widest range and in different configurations for variety of uses. High temperature axial extensometer is designed for use with a high temperature furnace to measure strain at high temperature. Mechanical extensometer is used for measuring strain, in roof control investigation. Rod extensometer is installed in boreholes to monitor settlements in foundations, subsidence above tunnels, displacements of retaining structures and deformations in underground openings. These extensometers often assembled with anchors, rods inside protective pipe, and a reference head.
