Fluorides are gaseous, solid, or dissolved compounds containing fluorine that result from industrial processes. Fluoride containing compounds are added to drinking water, prescribed treatments and other commercially available oral hygiene products because they are believed to help strengthen the tooth enamel. Fluoride sodium is used to prevent dental cavities and might be effective in the treatment of osteoporosis. By using fluoride toothpaste, one can get protected from cavity decay. The most common form of fluorine in nature is calcium fluoride. Hydrogen fluoride can exist as a particle, dissolving in clouds as fog, rain, dew, or snow. In clouds and moist air it will travel in air currents until it is deposited as acid rain, acid fog, etc. The adverse effects of fluoride are it causes weakened bones, skeleton fluories, brain damages and low iq in children, thyroid damage, indigestion, etc.
