Rolled zinc is used for three main applications in the building industry: roofing and cladding, rainwater systems, and flashing and accessories. It is also used as part of the containers of batteries. Electrical distribution boxes made of rolled zinc are proving an excellent solution for the local power utilities, which are going to replace, steel boxes because of the high corrosion rate. Various surface treatments on rolled zinc have also appeared on the market, mainly for reasons of architectural aesthetics. One type of treatment is application of colour, another is pre- weathering, leading to a light grey appearance similar to the patina of natural rolled zinc, or to a dark grey appearance, compatible with slate products. Rolled zinc is 100% recyclable.
