An organic compound and for industrial purpose it is regarded as most important dicarboxylic acid which is known as adipic acid. This adipic acid is mainly used in food and in medicines which are daily necessities for person. This adipic acid is used in small quantities in food category as because it is used for flavoring as well as for gelling purpose. Adipic acid is most common and similar to carboxylic acids which is known for mild skin irritant and is highly toxic for the oral ingestion for rats. The main features of this adipic acid when compared to other acid like citric acid is that it explodes when it is mixed with air. Adipic acid s used in the production of polyurethane foams and nylon which are used for the other purpose as well.Adipic acid can be found by the process of oxidizing of fats which is very much essential. The production of polyamide resin and fiber constitutes a major application area for the application area of the adipic acid which is then utilized for the further process. Adipic acid is white in color and in the form of crystalline powder which is slightly soluble in water and also in the alcohol as well as in acetone. This adipic acid uses the process of oxidation. The derivatives of this acid are acyl halides, anhydrides esters, amides and nitrates.
This adipic acid is used in making target products like flavoring agents, internal plasticizers, pesticides, dyes, textile treatment agents and in pharmaceuticals etc. A food item which contains adipic acids are jam, jelly and gelatin which has thick substance which is known as adipic acid. Cheese and baking powders which has bit of flavor for which adipic acid is used also in items like instant puddings, evaporated milk and fruit flavored beverages. These adipic acids are mostly used as the monomer which is the used for the production of nylon with the help of the poly condensation reaction which has proved to be very much effective method.
