A process which makes use of strong acid to cut into the other substance is known as acid etching. This process is very much used in industrial as well as for artistic purpose. Etching can be used for preparing floor cement which can further be used for painting or refinishing while the artists make use it to create detailed picture on metal or glass. Acid etching thus involves concrete and chemicals like muriatic acid or makes use of sulfamic acid which is very much used for preparing flooring to accept or produce epoxy paint. In artistic metal acid etching a metal sheet is covered in a waxy substance which is known as ground and later on which can be used for creating designs with the use of precision tools.
An acid etching process can create glass etchings as well because a resist which is very much made using wax or similar sticky substance is placed on the glass where the natural color remains and then the glass is dipped into hydrofluoric acid bath with which resist is removed thus enabling the etched image which is then very much visible. This process is considered to be dangerous and is not safe for small kids. The other type which includes photo acid etching which is an offshoot of metal etching where an image is printed on the special paper to produce a photo resist which is then placed on the metal which then leaves the etched image later on.
In a similar way a light etch can also produce a plate which is very much similar to the standard metal etching which is extensively in use today where a deeper etch make it possible which then enable it to literally punch the image out of the metal for metal models and can be widely used for the purpose of decorative items which would add bit of glory and beauty to it.
