Box fans have been used for many decades to maintain comfortable temperatures and ventilation within one's home. Box fans are widely used in domestic and commercial kitchens and industries. They're also colloquially referred to as 'exhaust fans' or 'window fans'. They're very similar to exhaust fans but are in only much, much smaller and comparatively less complex. A box fan is a device used to circulate air in order to keep the air cool or to eliminate odors. A box fan is typically used in residential homes in order to help keep a room cool. Many homeowners also choose to place a box fan in an open window, similar to an air conditioning unit. A box fan may also be used in a home simply to help circulate the air and prevent it from becoming stagnant. Window fans are designed to fit medium or large sized windows and have expandable side barriers to cover the entire window opening. Most units have either one large sized bladed fan, or two small sized bladed fan units mounted side by side. Rarely, some window fans use a blower wheel, which is found in more common tower fans. Manufacturers have added features to their models over the years. Some fans contain thermostats that will turn the fan off if the temperature drops to a certain point, or adjustable grills to direct the flow of air in a particular direction. Other fans offer sophisticated electronic features such as remote control, automatic shut off timers, or variable speed motor controls. Initially, fans were made of metal. However, in modern times, quiet and efficient plastic box fans have replaced the metal ones almost entirely.
Tower fans provide high performance cooling in a space-saving design. Exceptionally tall in proportion to its width, the tower fan is ideal for the individual looking to save space and get comfortable. Tower fans oscillate like most ordinary fans, but with a wider area of air circulation coverage and distribution. Tower fans oscillate on a base stand and distribute air circulation at a 90-degree angle. This angle, combined with the height of the unit, gives the tower fan its wider area of cool air circulation. A timer is included in the control panel on most models, which can be set to operate for up to several hours before shutting itself down.
With electronic apparel such as box and tower fans, the science of ventilation has reached a different stage altogether. In a technology-friendly age, manufacturers have well adapted to the rapidly developing technology, providing a wide variety to the consumer!
